Track Record

Ng has consistently argued against broad AI regulation, warning that overregulation could stifle open-source innovation and benefit large incumbents. In January 2025, he expressed disappointment that Congress did not include a moratorium on state-level AI regulation in legislation, arguing that the net impact of proposed regulations was negative. He also criticized the White House Executive Order on AI for using the Defense Production Act framework.

Ng incorporated ethics and responsible AI content into his Machine Learning curriculum on Coursera and DeepLearning.AI, covering fairness, transparency, bias, and societal impact. By embedding these topics into courses taken by millions, he helped establish responsible AI practices as a standard part of technical AI education rather than an afterthought.

After leaving Baidu, Ng founded DeepLearning.AI to provide accessible deep learning courses and resources. The platform offers specialized technical training including the Deep Learning Specialization and AI for Everyone course, reaching an estimated 8 million learners globally and helping bridge the AI skills gap.

In 2012, Andrew Ng co-founded Coursera with Daphne Koller, creating the world's largest MOOC platform. His Machine Learning course has reached over 4.8 million learners alone, and the platform now serves over 100 million learners globally, removing geographic and economic barriers to higher education.
