Lagos pharmacy employee Nwafor Joshua Abba filed suit (Case No. LD/14617GCMW/2025) in the Lagos State High Court alleging Moniepoint Microfinance Bank photographed him at his workplace in April 2025 without consent and published the image on its website and marketing materials as a promotional testimonial showing him holding a Moniepoint POS terminal, despite him never having any relationship with the company. After his lawyers demanded removal and compensation, Moniepoint allegedly contacted his employer, Bodycare Pharmacy and Store Limited, which summoned him and pressured him under threat of dismissal to sign a retroactive consent form; Abba says he withdrew that consent in writing within 24 hours. The image reportedly remained publicly accessible on Moniepoint's website and downloadable marketing materials despite repeated legal demands from April to June 2025. The suit invokes Nigeria's Data Protection Act 2023 and Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution, seeking ₦225 million in damages, image removal, a public apology and an injunction. Litigation is ongoing.
