In April 2023, MSI confirmed a cyberattack by the Money Message ransomware group. The attackers claimed to have exfiltrated 1.5TB of data and demanded $4M in ransom. Leaked data reportedly included Intel OEM private keys and firmware signing keys, creating a significant supply chain security risk as the keys could be used to sign malicious firmware updates that would appear legitimate.

During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, MSI refused to withdraw from or reduce operations in the Russian market. Yale's Chief Executive Leadership Institute classified MSI in its 'Digging In' category for companies defying demands for exit or reduction. MSI was the only Taiwanese company in the database. MSI claimed it 'abides by all international regulations.'

In October 2020, MSI's subsidiary Starlit Partners was discovered selling MSI-brand NVIDIA RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards on eBay at prices up to twice the MSRP during the global GPU shortage. The seller's eBay account was traced back to MSI. The company took responsibility and offered affected customers full refunds or partial refunds of the overcharge.
